Early Origins and the Power of “Geek Girls Exist”

Our story begins at San Diego Comic-Con in 2010. Amidst superheroes, blockbuster films, and TV celebrities, a panel called “Geek Girls Exist” sparked something magical. Despite competing with the popular Scott Pilgrim panel, the room overflowed with enthusiasm. The seed was planted, and GeekGirlCon was born.

From Northwest Rooms to Empowering Spaces

Fast-forward to October 8 and 9, 2011—the inaugural GeekGirlCon. We flung open the doors at Seattle Center’s Northwest Rooms and the EMP Museum. Nearly 4,000 people celebrated the female geek, including 400 attendees under 10 years old. Our convention showcased over 70 hours of programming, all fueled by the passion of 50 volunteers and 30 staff members (all 100% volunteers). But that was just the beginning.

Special Guests Who Lit Up The Stages

Let’s roll out the red carpet for some past special guests:

  1. Ngozi Ukazu: A New York Times-bestselling author and the creator of Check, Please!, an online graphic novel that broke Kickstarter records.
  2. Banana Chan: A multifaceted talent who has graced our stages and brought her unique flair to the geek community.
